The first Bird Two electric scooters took to the streets of Yonkers today, less than two weeks after the city announced it had chosen Bird to be its exclusive micromobility operator. Yonkers Mayor Mike Spano and State Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins were on hand to mark the occasion as the program kicked off with the launch of a fleet of brand new B2s.
“Yonkers is pleased to once again lead the way as a progressive city in offering smart, emission-free transportation solutions for our community,” said Mayor Spano in late July. “Partnering with Bird will provide residents and visitors the opportunity to travel our city with ease and convenience all while being affordable, reliable and fun.”
With today’s launch, Yonkers is setting a high bar for micromobility in New York. Bird Two electric scooters are custom designed by our team of former aerospace and automotive engineers to be the most advanced and sustainable shared scooters in the world.
Each vehicle is equipped with a state-of-the-art diagnostic system that scans for faults millions of times per day, along with industry-leading IP67 or IP68-rated waterproof batteries and a custom bearing stack proven to withstand more than 60,000 curbside impacts.
