Bird Ride Pass: 3 New Ways to Help Reduce Transportation Costs

Transportation needs have changed dramatically in 2020. Micromobility riders are no exception.

Since the global spread of COVID-19 earlier this year, the number of trips taken by those who rely on Bird for routine journeys has increased by 70%. This reflects a persistent global decline in public transit ridership in the wake of the pandemic that has forced millions to rethink their daily commute to work or school.

The team at Bird wants to help those in need of transportation as well as cities that are grappling with budget cuts or reduced service offerings. That’s why we’re piloting three new ways for micromobility riders to transport themselves safely and affordably while remaining socially distant:

  • Ride Pass
The new Bird Ride Pass offers bundles of free weekly or monthly scooter unlocks for one low fixed price.
  • Commuter Pricing
Bird’s new Commuter Pricing option offers automatic discounts for anyone riding during peak congestion times Monday through Thursday from 4 am to 6 pm.
  • Transit Parking Incentives
For those who rely on Bird to complement their public transit journey, ride credits will be applied for neat and orderly parking.

“We’ve designed our ride pass, commuter pricing and transit parking options to help make e-scooters more accessible exactly when riders need them most,” said Rebecca Hahn, Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer at Bird. “Whether you rely on public transportation to get to work or you’re trying to reduce the strain on busses and trains for those who do, Bird wants to help ensure that individuals have mobility options adapted to the new normal.”

Public transit and micromobility are essential parts of city life, and play a critical role in helping reduce the number of cars on the road. Because the mobility needs of each community are different around the world, we’ll be piloting these new options to find out which is best suited for each city. Messaging will be shared via the Bird App concerning available options in your area.

We’re proud to pilot our new Bird Ride Pass just two weeks after our expanded Community Pricing program brought 50% discounts to low income riders, Pell grant recipients, select local nonprofit and community organizations, veterans and senior citizens.
