Safety isn't a feature. It's the foundation.
Every Bird is built — and every system is designed — to keep riders, pedestrians, and communities safer.
Rules of the road
You must be 18+ to ride
Age is verified in-app before your first ride.
One rider per vehicle
Local traffic law — and just common sense.
Wear a helmet
Required in many cities. The right call everywhere.
The basics, everywhere Bird operates
- Ride in the bike lane or road — not the sidewalk, unless local law says otherwise.
- Obey traffic signals — red lights and stop signs apply to you.
- No riding impaired. Zero tolerance.
- No phone use while riding.
- Watch for pedestrians and be mindful of surface conditions.
Rules vary by city. The Bird app shows local regulations and speed limits before every ride.
Parking Tips
- Keep sidewalks, curb ramps, driveways, and building entrances fully clear.
- Use a designated Bird parking zone or bike corral when available.
- Drop the kickstand, then take the in-app parking photo to end your ride — improper parking is subject to fees.
Safety Technology
Bird builds safety into the ride itself — not just the rules around it.
AI Parking Review
Every end-of-ride parking photo is reviewed by AI to confirm the vehicle is parked legally and not blocking access.
Sidewalk Detection
On-vehicle sensors detect sidewalk riding patterns and can trigger speed reduction or ride interruption in real time.
Rider Score
Every rider has a score that reflects their habits — speed, parking, reported factors. Consistent safe riding keeps it up; repeated violations can restrict access.
Rider Zone Audio
In-ride audio alerts notify riders of slow zones and restricted areas — no need to look at a phone.
Beginner Mode
Limits acceleration so first-time riders can build confidence at a manageable pace before unlocking full speed.
Slow Zones
Bird automatically enforces reduced speeds near schools, parks, high-pedestrian areas, and city-designated zones — no manual input required.
Vehicle Stability Technology
Suspension and stability features are designed to handle real urban surfaces — curbs, cracks, uneven pavement. Less wobble, more control.
Safe Riding to Nests
End-of-ride parking navigation guides riders directly to the nearest designated parking area.
