Bird and Reno Kick Off Exclusive 3-Year Scooter Program

And just like that, “The Biggest Little City in the World” has its first official scooter program.

The City Council approved the agreement—one of the longest exclusive scooter programs in the country—between Bird and the City of Reno last week, clearing the way for today’s launch of industry-leading Bird Three scooters.

In the four months since the conditional permit was awarded in late 2021, Bird has been working closely with city officials, local businesses and community organizations including the Downtown Reno Partnership and the Truckee Meadows Bicycle Alliance to understand the transportation needs of Reno residents and answer questions related to our service. These efforts have included the identification of 50 marked parking corrals that will help keep parking orderly and sidewalks clear.

“Bird is honored to partner with the City of Reno to launch our eco-friendly scooter program for residents and visitors,” said Brian Buccella, Senior Vice President of Global Policy at Bird. “We are committed to working with the community to increase transportation access to all residents as well as helping the city meet their sustainability goals.”

Throughout spring, an initial fleet of 250 Bird Three scooters will be deployed throughout Reno with geofenced riding areas clearly indicated in the Bird app. Our team will then work closely with the city to carefully and strategically increase the fleet size to meet demand into summer.

The launch in Reno comes just a week after Bird announced our exclusive scooter program in Indio, California, home to world famous festivals including Coachella and Stagecoach.
