Santa Monica, Calif., April 12, 2019 – Demonstrating momentum towards its mission of making cities more livable, Bird today announced it is expanding its fleet size throughout Europe and the Middle East ten-fold. As it plans launches in over 50 new cities in the region beginning this spring, Bird will also roll out Bird Zero, the industry’s first electric scooter designed and engineered specifically for the e-scooter sharing industry.
Less than a year ago, Bird arrived in Europe and the Middle East launching in Paris, Tel Aviv, Brussels, Antwerp, Vienna, Zurich and initiated a pilot in London. To date in 2019, the company has doubled its European footprint with recent launches in Malaga, Lisbon, Warsaw, Lyon, Madrid as well as starting a trial in Bamberg, Germany. The rapid expansion into new cities and deeper footprint in existing markets will result in Europe and the Middle East representing nearly 50% of Bird’s worldwide operations.
“World class brands and companies have the perfect formula of economics and the ability to grow and scale. As we expand Bird’s global footprint, we will demonstrate unmatched innovation, commitment to riders, neighborhoods and cities and operational excellence while generating an explosive run rate. This formula will drive great impact and progress on our mission to make our cities and communities more livable,” said Travis VanderZanden, founder and CEO of Bird.
