Abilene Christian University Signs Exclusive Partnership with Bird

University Brings Environmentally Friendly Option to Campus Community

ABILENE, Texas, August 24, 2018: Abilene Christian University (ACU) is one of the first universities to enter into an exclusive partnership with Bird to offer shared electric scooters to students. Bird, the leader in last-mile electric mobility, will be the only low-speed, dock-free electric scooter company providing environmentally friendly transportation to ACU students and faculty.

Communities across the country have embraced Bird as a convenient, equitable, and environmentally friendly way to get around. Bird operates in more than 30 cities, including Austin, Dallas and San Antonio. Bird and ACU will work with campus police, local officials, and student groups to reduce the number of car trips on campus, while providing a new, accessible and clean transportation option for students.

“We are thrilled to partner with Bird to bring electric, dockless mobility to our campus,” said Kevin Campbell, ACU’s Senior Vice President of Operations. “Bird offers an affordable and convenient transportation alternative for our students and faculty, and will help combat the current traffic and parking challenges as we embark upon a new school year. Bird is beneficial not only for trips across campus, but the electric scooters will help connect our students to the surrounding community.”

“Abilene Christian University wants to provide its students with mobility options that curb traffic and reduce greenhouse gas emissions,” said Stephen Schnell, chief operating officer at Bird. “By bringing Birds to campus, we look forward to helping ACU students and faculty get where they need to go more quickly and easily.”

Also available to riders at Abilene Christian University is “One Bird,” a program providing those who qualify for federal or state assistance programs access to affordable and convenient transportation. One Bird eliminates the $1 base fee per ride, so qualifying individuals only pay 15 cents per minute.
