Bird, Free Bikes 4 Kidz Pair Up to Increase Cycling Access in San Diego

When it comes to increasing cycling access, we’re all in this together.

That’s why Bird has joined forces with Free Bikes 4 Kidz San Diego, a local chapter of the nationwide FB4K organization dedicated to providing free pedal bicycles for children across the US whose families may not be able to afford them.

In addition to donating hundreds of helmets as well as vans and warehouse space for hosting collection and repair events, Bird also maintains a seat on the FB4K board of directors in San Diego. We’re proud to say that we’ve helped collect over 700 pedal bikes in the first weeks of 2022 alone thanks to the generosity of families and individuals throughout San Diego.

“We truly believe that Bird’s mission aligns with ours and the City of San Diego,” said Michele Lambert, Executive Director of Free Bikes for Kidz San Diego. “With their significant support of Free Bikes 4 Kids, as well as their focus on road safety and education, increased access to clean transportation and more livable communities, they are truly making an impact here in our communities.”

While Bird is thrilled to support the wonderful efforts of FB4K San Diego, we know their success requires full community involvement. You can learn more and show your support by making a donation to either the San Diego chapter or to the San Diego County Bike Coalition

Every donation helps.

Bird Bikes Gain Momentum in San Diego

Bird’s support of FB4K is not the only thing we’re doing to increase cycling access across the city.

In October, San Diego became the first city globally to roll out our new shared e-assist Bird Bikes on the SDSU campus. Since then, riders have logged thousands of miles on our e-assist bikes featuring dual hand brakes, advanced onboard diagnostics, aerospace-grade aluminum alloy framing and a maximum range of more than 80 kms (50 miles) on a single battery charge.
