Bird’s Guide to San Antonio
With so much to do, see, eat and enjoy, we’re not entirely sure you can do it all in just one trip, but here are some crowd favorites within Birding distance!
Caffeine Fix
Start your day off at CommonWealth to get your morning fuel for a full day of sightseeing. There is plenty of outdoor seating and they deliver a great cup of joe, right in the center of downtown!
For caffeine and sweet treats, check out Bakery Lorraine, known for its colorfully cute pastries. They also make a mean cup of coffee to go with your Parisian macarons.
Eat like a local.
For an afternoon pick-me-up, Bird over to South Alamode Panini & Gelato Company, located downtown. Their gelato is made fresh daily, with locally-sourced ingredients and their paninis have meats and cheeses imported directly from Italy- yum.
You can’t make a trip to the south without experiencing the incredible cuisine. Mr. A Ok’s Kitchen has all the southern classics; chicken fried steak, collard greens, and finish off your meal with the banana bread pudding.
Explore the city.
While there is no Birding on The River Walk, it’s a must-see while you’re visiting San Antonio that includes everything from culture and nightlife to shopping and dining. Helpful hint: a great place to park and grab a Bird scooter is St. Mary’s and Crockett Street (you can access both the east and west river walk directly in front of the Drury Hotel).
Get yourself some culture at ArtPace, the contemporary art museum that will fascinate you. ArtPace is free and open to the public, with nine rotating artists per year from all over the world.
Be sure to check out the Blue Star Arts Complex, considered the “Anchor” of art in San Antonio. Boasting with curated places to live, eat, and create the Blue Star Contemporary Museum hosts 30,000 visitors a year.
Finally, the San Antonio Museum of Art (currently open on Jones Avenue), and the Botanical Gardens are two crowd favorites.
