Bird Accepted as Micromobility’s First Signatory of UN Global Compact

This Clean Air Day, we’re honored to share some good news with you.

Bird has been accepted as the micromobility industry’s first signatory of the United Nations Global Compact, a worldwide initiative encouraging companies to “align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption.”

Our mission to reduce car traffic and provide cities with clean, accessible micromobility alternatives has long been aligned in spirit with many of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). Now, through our participation in the UNGC, we’re determined to take these commitments a step further.

Bird will be working within the United Nations’ guiding framework and engaging in learning and dialogue with participating organizations in order to advance the principles and SDGs that make up the UN Global Compact. These include critical objectives such as:

  • SDG 3 Good Health and Well-Being
  • SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy
  • SDG 8 Decent Work and Economic Growth
  • SDG 9 Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
  • SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities
  • SDG 12 Responsible Consumption and Production
  • SDG 13 Climate Action
  • SDG 17 Partnership for the goals

“To be accepted as a signatory of the UN Global Compact is more than just an honor; it’s a reminder of our clear and immediate responsibility to help care for our planet and all of its inhabitants,” said Bird’s Chief Corporate Social Responsibility Officer, Rebecca Hahn. “Bird is committed to doing everything we can to advance sustainability goals in the urban transportation sector, one of the worst contributors to climate change.”

Over the next few months, we’ll be providing regular updates on our progress as we work to advance these goals.
