Flying to Graduation

Real Life. Real People. Real Stories from Communities…and Campuses.

Meet Yolanda and Brian, a Los Angeles-based couple who had never ridden a Bird until the spring of 2018.

In the spring of 2018, Yolanda was slated to graduate from the University of California – Los Angeles (UCLA). This momentous achievement is one Yolanda wanted to enjoy and share with her loved ones. She was days away from graduation and her closest friends and family were all going to be in attendance, except for one extremely important person: Brian.

Yolanda’s partner Brian had been bravely battling Leukemia, amongst several remissions and relapses. While he wanted nothing more than to proudly watch Yolanda graduate, he was forced to put his health ahead of this important day. UCLA is a very widespread campus, and with the parking strain on such a crowded day, Brian would not have been able to walk the distance to and from the commencement ceremony.

Yolanda’s family introduced them to Bird and the pieces quickly fell into place.

“Bird made my graduation day amazing because it allowed Brian to be there for me. Without Bird, he simply would not have been able to go because of the physical strain he would have had to endure.”

Brian spent the day riding Bird across UCLA’s campus, proudly attending each event.

Congratulations to Yolanda and Brian, we are wishing you all of the best. We are honored and humbled by your inspiring story and are grateful to have you as part of the Bird community.
