Bird Kicks off University Pop-Up Tour

Over the Next Six Weeks, Bird will Host Pop-Ups at 150 Universities and Colleges to Meet Student Demand for Environmentally Friendly Transportation Options

Venice, Calif. (August 16, 2018) – Bird, the leader in last-mile electric mobility, today announced it is kicking off a University Pop-Up Tour to introduce students and faculty to its fleet of low-cost, carbon-free shared electric scooters.

Similar to many cities, universities and colleges face an ever-increasing transportation, parking, and environmental crisis. Much of the congestion on campuses today stems from the rapid influx of student enrollment, especially in schools located in small towns. According to the U.S. Department of Education, undergraduate enrollment has increased by 28 percent since 2000. Compounding the problem, many colleges and universities are located in cities and communities with populations of 50,000 or fewer people. These communities often do not have robust public transit programs and heavily rely on pollution-emitting cars for short-distance trips on or around campus.

“This year, as the summer comes to a close and students return to campus, they might be able to leave their cars behind by Birding,” said Travis VanderZanden, CEO and founder of Bird. “Whether it’s making it to a class on time, clocking in for work, or simply getting to campus from the nearest public transit stop, Bird will help eliminate transportation gaps so students and faculty can focus on what really matters: education.”

The Bird University Pop-Up Tour will visit a range of large public universities and smaller private colleges. Colleges and universities interested in signing up for the Bird University Pop-Up Tour are encouraged to email universities@bird.co for more information. Riders interested in finding a Bird near them can download the app and sign up at www.bird.co.
